Face shapes
Square face shape
Forehead, cheekbones and jaw sit on almost the same line, with a strong jaw and a fairly flat chin. The angles are the defining feature.
What a square face is
In a square face the width of the forehead, the cheekbones and the jaw are close to each other, and the jawline turns a visible corner. The chin is flatter than in other shapes and the whole face reads as structured.
How to tell
- Forehead, cheeks and jaw are almost the same width.
- The jawline is angular, not curved.
- The chin is broad rather than pointed.
- The face looks as wide as it is long, or close to it.
Hairstyles
- Soft waves and a deep side part break the geometry.
- Flat, boxy cuts with a blunt fringe repeat the angles and look heavy.
- Texture and layers around the temples soften the outline.
Glasses
- Round and oval frames contrast with the jawline.
- Square frames reinforce what is already angular.
Beard and facial hair
Short stubble or a trimmed beard with rounded edges. Shaping the bottom of the beard into a curve balances the flat chin.
